At Zela Davis our staff, students, and parents believe “ZD Readers Are Tomorrow’s Leaders!”

Our mission and commitment is to maximize each student's potential to achieve educational excellence. We are dedicated to ensuring that our school provides a welcoming, safe, bully free environment where students are actively involved in learning academics, as well as, positive values and self discipline.

Zela Davis embraces a vision of educational excellence, for everyone. Through a rigorous, standards-based curriculum, collaboration, and partnership within the school community, we at Zela Davis are committed to ensuring that all learners will not only meet, but exceed grade level standards.

We are dedicated to building a team effort among families, staff, district, and community to assist all students in developing skills to become independent, self-sufficient adults who will contribute responsibly in the community.

For the past two months our Girls in Engineering club has been meeting on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings before school. The girls designed satellites with a six inch cube base with the goal of deploying their solar panels (wings) and antennas with one motion. Through this enrichment class we were hoping to create more awareness surrounding future engineering possibilities for women. As a culminating celebration for our group we walked to SpaceX where our students had the opportunity to meet with an engineer, who is the Director of Planning at SpaceX, and the Education and Community Outreach Manager. The students presented their satellite designs as the SpaceX employees facilitated the discussions. After the presentations, the students had a tour of the factory floor led by the director. We got to stand back and watch our students shine as they asked and answered questions about all aspects of rocket production.

Peer Pack 2016-2017

The Peer Pack which is a peer mediation group with Bud Carson. Teen mentors come from Bud Carson to pair up with Zela Davis students. The students meet on 6 different Thursdays of the school year and collaborate on workshops that focus on Social Media Management, Vision Board implementation, Supporting differences and healthy lifestyle choices. Students participate in small group reflective exercises and culminate each session with a collaborative take home assignment. The Peer Pack increases awareness of social justice, social responsibility and community. The Peer Pack is the bridge that connects our elementary student leaders with our Middle school leaders. The goal is to create leaders and enhance leadership qualities and decisions among our transitioning youth. The groups are led by students and both Deans from Zela Davis and Praire Vista Middle School.
